Your account

When you sign in we store your email address, your native language, the languages you are learning and the date you joined. Sign-in uses one-time magic links; we keep only a hash of each link, never a password. A session cookie keeps you signed in on this site.

When you ask for an explanation

The text you select, a short excerpt of the video's subtitles around it and your language settings are sent to our servers to produce the explanation. That is the only purpose they serve.

We never store your selected text or subtitle excerpts, and they never appear in logs or analytics. We keep only anonymised technical records — enough to apply your daily quota and account for our costs.

Explanations we generate may be kept for up to 30 days so identical requests answer faster. They are not linked to your account.

What the extension can access

The extension runs only on youtube.com video pages. It reads the subtitles of the video you are watching and stores your preferences locally in Chrome. It does not read other sites, your browsing history or your Google account.

Analytics

We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to measure how the product is used. Events are tied to your account once you sign in, but never contain the text you select, subtitles or which video you were watching.

Service providers

An AI provider (Google) to generate explanations, PostHog EU for analytics, Resend for sign-in emails and owner notices when someone asks to join the closed beta, and Railway for hosting. Each receives only what its task requires. We do not sell or share your data for advertising.

Closed-beta waitlist

If you leave your email on the public site to join the closed test, we store that address, the time of your first and last request, whether you agreed we may follow up about your experience, and the site language of the page you used. We use this to send you the installation link later (by hand, in small groups) and, only if you ticked the box, to ask how the trial is going. No newsletter. This does not create a Vocabison account. We keep the request for 12 months after your last submit, then delete it. To delete it sooner or withdraw follow-up consent, write to support@vocabison.com.

Retention and your rights

Account data is kept while your account exists; generated explanations for at most 30 days. You can ask us at any time to access, export or delete your account and data — write to support@vocabison.com and we will handle it within 30 days.

Changes

Vocabison is in closed test; this policy will grow with the product. Material changes are announced on this page and, for account holders, by email.
